Our first sail cargo trip

Our first sail cargo trip

We braced a cold November day to deliver our first sail cargo – 55 sacks of clothing for recycling charity Bags of Support. We collected the clothes from their sorting centre in Partridge Green, loaded onto Karic at Chichester marina and sailed across to Bembridge Harbour, on the east side of the Isle of Wight. From here it’s a short journey to their Sandown premises where the clothes are upcycled for selling on. Bags of Support repair uniforms for schools in Haiti, Romania and Uganda, as well as selling improved used clothing to raise additional funds. Clothes are collected from schools on the south coast, who Bags of Support pay 50p/kilo, helping raise funds for schools here too.

We are planning future deliveries and are looking for deliveries to take back from the island on our return trips. Please contact us if you are interested.

This chartlet shows our track. We motored the last 20 minutes into Bembridge as we were headed into an increasing wind (F5-6), but it was downwind all the way back. 34 nautical miles in total.
