Our two day Day Skipper Preparation weekends are for people who might already have some sailing experience, or have completed RYA Competent Crew, but want to gain a bit more experience and confidence before tackling RYA Day Skipper or RYA Coastal Skipper. You can also use the weekend to ask any questions you might have. Our Day Skipper Preparation weekends are a great way to brush up before or after a Day Skipper course, or just to develop your sailing skills, perhaps because you own, or intend to buy your own boat. Each weekend will see close quarters sailing techniques demonstrated and then give everyone plenty of opportunity to practise – sailing on and off mooring buoys, COB (Crew Over Board) recovery under sail, tacking and gybing, sail trim and points of sail. Whether you are looking to progress from Competent Crew to Day Skipper or beyond Day Skipper, this is the weekend for you. If there is a particular topic you would like to practise – such as pilotage, anchoring, engine maintenance – there will be the opportunity to discuss this in advance with your skipper and fit it into the weekend. There will also be opportunities to revise navigational theory for anyone who has been enrolled on a theory course, recently or in the past
Our Day Skipper Preparation weekends are not an RYA course, but you will receive a certificate of attendance outlining the learning outcomes and the training days can be entered into your sailing logbook. These courses usually take place on our yacht Karic.
